Brand Identity

Brand Identity

Brand identity is a name, term, symbol, design or feature that identifies a product differently to other products . The design may use a picture to let the audience know that it is their product and they will put this picture on every single one of their products so that the audience know who it is produced by .

Brand owners manage their brands carefully to create shareholder value, and brand valuation is an important technique that puts a money value to a brand, and allows people to make more money.(e.g. Brands such as Ralph Lauren get lots of money for their products because of its picture of some one playing Polo on a horse) And this creates more money for the brand owners.

You can see from these photos some of the products from Ralph Lauren, the Horse Polo is on each product no matter what the product is e.g as you can see it is on Glasses, perfume and clothing . When ever we see the Horse Polo on anything we automatically know that it belongs to Ralph Lauren . Because of the identity of the brand, this is because it is familiarized as an
expensive and popular brand .

The Brief

To create a magazine advertisement for the digipak.

Final product- Digipak

Our final product turned out very well, we feel that it suits the genre very well and that it will catch the audiences attention . It has all the conventions that a digipak needs and makes a good album .

Second digipak update

Madness our house
This is the finished product of all the characters cut out and placed where we would like them to go . As you can see the basic idea behind this was to make Lewis stand out . We made Lewis stand out even more by adding a black and white affect to every character but Lewis . One of the reasons that we chose to do this was because Lauren who was our umpper lumper was way to bright compared to the rest of the characters . We decided to add a white back ground to the whole digipak to make it rather simplistic and to promote the artist. This is also a good convention of the genre and we would like to stick to the conventions that are presented in ska music so that the audience will recognise straight away what genre Madness is .

We have chose to stick with my first draft idea of the bold font and the simplistic designs. This also sticks to the conventions of the genre and makes it stand out on the white back ground . We also chose to use black font because it also stands out on the white back ground .

We have started to make the back of the digipak and have decided to use some of madness old songs to make the album look realistic . We have chose to use a different font on the back because we do not want it to stand out as much as it does on the front . We have chosen to use ten different song on the back, this is also to make it look realistic .

First Digipak update

We have over all decided to use the feedback that we got from the rest of our class . We are using a photo that we took whilst filming. This photo consists of all the characters that were in our music video from each scene . We have started cutting each character out of this photo as we would like each character hid behind Lewis as we want to promote the artist . We did this through using a wand tool which took most of the shape of the characters. The left over picture that was around the characters that we did not want, we used a rubber and zoomed in to get it as perfectly shaped as we could . It took a while to do this to every single one of the characters that we wanted on the front cover . We then used separate layers for each characters so that we can re-size them and rotate them . We did this so that we can hide each character behind one another .

This is the picture that we used to create the over all picture on the front cover that we wanted . As you can see there is one character per scene that we used in the music video . We wanted to use these themes because it fits in with the hit song "Our House " which the audience will recognize .

You can also see Gemma using the wand tool in order to cut Chrissie out so that we can place her where we would like to put her . You can also see the surrounded area that is around Chrissie which we used the rubber to carefully rub out .

Digipak research-Madness Album covers

I decided to research some of Madness's album covers to give me and idea of what their digipaks looks like . After doing so you can see from the pictures that much like the genre, they all use pictures of the whole band messing around and having fun . This is stereotypical of this genre as all of their videos are of the band messing around and having fun . The genre is rebellious and this shows in their album covers and digipaks . There postures are all slouched with bent knees which connotes rebellion because they are not standing as normal people would . There facial expressions are mostly of them pulling faces which also connotes rebellion as it is not the social norm to pull faces at an audience .

    Feedbak from our music videos.

We decided to post our music videos on Facebook, Youtube and emails to get some feedback on our finished product . We did this so that we know what we could do better next time and to see what people thought of the video . We had some really good feedback and people really enjoyed it .

    Here is an email of one of the teachers that we sent an email to . And the feed back was really good;
Gemma G, Jess H, Lillie C – fun and happy, reflected song well, nice matching of rhythms of cuts to music, like the growing absurdity
We wanted this affect on our audience so it was good to get the feedback that we wanted .

    Editing update

In our final feedback session that we had with our class we were told that people did not understand that Lewis was jumping into a rabbit whole and then walking straight out of the wardrobe so we decided to use a piece of footage that we had of the camera spinning round a light cover . When doing this we had to use smudge effects and a colour change so that we can make it look like a swirl instead of a light . We found that by putting this infront and behind of each scene it linked the scenes together and made it look like he had jumped down a hole and came out of the wardrobe . We feel that this is unique and different as we used lots of different effects such as smudge , blur and dis formation.  Here is what the finished product looked like .

    Final feedback session

We did one final feedback session to get our music video looking perfect, it is clear from the feedback that we are a lot closer to finishing the product and that there is very little to do to it now .
    Good points:
    • Good idea because it is unique
    • Funny and interesting which keeps the audience drawn in
    • Casting right - well acted
    • Clear narrative which syncs with the music

    Bad points:
    • Need more clarity on the rabbit hole bit.
    • In bathroom  scene he has jacket on going in but then doesn't have it on when out, isn't clear he is in shorts
    • Impact points at the start need to be edited a bit more to grab attention of the audience straight away, a lot better towards end
    • Need to white balance some of the clips .
