Early ideas; Tedorov Theory and Matt Kiel

Before deciding on ideas for our music video we decided to look at Tedorov's theory of the five stages to a music video ( Equilibrium/Disequilibrium) ;

  • Equilibrium- State of normality
  • Disruption- Something goes wrong
  • Recognition- Recognizes that something has gone wrong
  • Repairs- Try's t fix the problem that went wrong
  • New Equilibrium- back to stage one

Matt Kiel

Matt Keil believes that there are three types of music videos;

  1. Performance based video- This is a video that features the band or artist performing the song through a lot of the video this is normally through out a lot of the video and is used by some one who has a low budget .
  2. Narrative based video- This is a video that includes footage that tells a story and is usually used to show a relationship between two people.  It normally has a fictional protagonist  which is played by the actor or singer which is solely created for the music video. These videos normally relate to Tedorov's theory.
  3. Concept based video- This s  video which are based around one idea or concept . These videos are different ad unusual and usually use different editing techniques and ideas all together . Concept based video can draw in the audiences attention and normally stick in the audiences mind because of how different they are but t s not very often that you will see a purely conceptual video .
We decided that we did not want to use this Tedorov's theory in our music video due to the fact that we do not want a story line, we want it to be disjunctive but performance based because we all decided that we were bored of seeing a story line about love .
